9 Ideas to Organize the Pantry

The lack of space makes it difficult for people to find themselves in the closets and pantries.

9 Ideas to Organize the Pantry

A well organized pantry can help us with very important factors such as optimizing space and reducing waste (after all, we can see exactly what we have at home and what we really need to buy). In addition, it ensures that nothing is lost in the cabinets and even that is wasted time looking for where is that spice that we urgently want to use at dinner. The organization also directly influences food conservation. Check out the tips we have prepared for you to organize your pantry:

1 – Remove everything from cabinets

In the first moment it is important to remove everything you have in the cabinets, check the expiration dates, if you have food that has expired, throw it away! There will also be a need for general cleaning, in case of larvae it is important to use materials that sterilize the environment (alcohol, vinegar and others), in order to avoid a new proliferation.

2 – Divide and organize

It is important that the pantry is organized by categories, and the use of pots greatly facilitates this division, as they will allow a better occupation of the space and also allow you to segment the items. And so, over time, the organization will flow almost automatically. The way you segment or categorize the items does not differ, for example by items according to the meal: the top is the items related to breakfast and snack, in the middle and under the lunch-related things and dinner. The interesting thing is that by creating this categorization even those who are not accustomed to their pantry will intuitively follow the pattern and store things in the right place.

Small items such as jelly boxes, spices and others should be stored in a larger box. All must be grouped in a box or container unique to products of the same type, a box only for seasonings, another only for jellies and so on. This way the pantry is more organized, facilitating the location in case of necessity.

3 – Organizers

It is important that some items in the pantry are always kept in closed glass jars after being opened. Items such as: biscuit, rice and beans are stored for much longer if stored in these containers. Whenever possible, note the expiration date on the pots, or even use stickers to keep track of what should be consumed with some urgency.

Another item that can be widely used for organizing pantries is the baskets, which can be straw, plastic or even colored, thus facilitating the organization of items. Larger containers make the routine easier by grouping a large number of items that could easily be scattered in a disorganized pantry, such as packaged crackers, salty snacks, corn kernels, peas, and more.

4 – New products

With each new purchase it is important that the products that were already in the pantry have priority in the consumption, so that it does not have the risk that they deteriorate or exceed the validity. Thus follows the rule, those who entered first are consumed first. Important also for products that will not be removed from the packaging and will go from shopping straight to pantry, they are cleaned before storing them.

Foods like canned, chocolates and cereals, we usually keep in their original packaging. So before storing them, it is good to clean using a cloth with alcohol, to remove dust and possible dirt that has stuck in them due to the time on display in the supermarket, as well as at any stage of transportation of the product.

5 – Labels

It may seem simple, but it is very important that the products are stored with the label on the front, this makes daily life more agile and also control the expiration dates. This makes it easier for those who cook, improves product identification and helps you quickly see if you have something missing. Just like on supermarket shelves, everything you have available for purchase, in this case use, is exposed in a clear way, so that you get it quickly and optimize your time.

It is important to keep this way and maintain the organization’s standard to ensure agility in your daily domestic actions.

6 – Location

Some products should be kept in a cool place, without exposure to heat and sun. So it is important that the pantry is located away from ovens, stoves or other sources of heat, so that foods such as canned goods are not at risk of spoiling.

7 – Frequent foods

The foods that are used most frequently, should be placed in strategic position, in easy access points and quick viewing. This also avoids the disorganization of the others of less frequent consumption.

8 – Deep shelves

If you have a pantry with deep shelves it helps a lot because you can put the least consumed or new foods in the bottom and thus avoid being consumed in front of the ones in the pantry, which certainly has a too much.

9 – Shopping Lists

The use of the shopping list is very important to keep the pantry always well organized, after all with the correct list, you will always buy the ideal and really needed quantity of each item. This list should be affixed in the kitchen to the place where food is stored so that you can keep it organized as the ingredients are gone or used. In general, who runs the house or the kitchen ends up having more control over this information and knows what is more or less consumed during the week, as well as the brands and quantities that are used.
