Vintage Bathroom Decor

In Oregon, clever savings and a lot of DIY transformed a cramped space in a bathroom worthy of a hotel

When Obbie and Connie Atkinson bought their farm in eastern Oregon, they knew they would need a new bathroom. Their house was built in the late nineteenth century, at a time when all the homes were not equipped with running water. The farm bathroom, which was cramped and unusual shape, had certainly been added to the house in 1920-1930.

After eight years in the house, the couple transformed the cellar located in the back of the house into a beautiful bathroom with bath vintage and a walk-in shower.

The pantry was previously utility office, storage space, and from time to time, served as guest bedroom. Here at stylishtacoma you can get more different models and styles.

After
The couple realized three quarters of the work itself. As she drew the plans, Connie had in mind the public baths of Wawona Hotel Yosemite. “I love this historic hotel atmosphere” , she justifies.

“We also have grandchildren and we wanted the bathroom is able to receive all”, she added.” the son of my daughter, Charlie, is in a wheelchair, so we wanted to create a place that is accessible to the disabled. And I’m sure we will benefit also, Obbie and me, when we are older. ”

The transformation of the bathroom began along Highway 86, east of Oregon. “On the Internet I found a 1930 washbasin, cast, perfect but it was too expensive,” says Connie. “Then one day, while I was driving on the road leading into town, I saw a white glow in the river. I took my binoculars and saw that it was a sink… exactly the sink that I had spotted on the Internet.”

After pulling the heavy furniture of the waves of the river and have dragged across a field ( ” My poor husband, he must really love me ! ” she jokes), Obbie brought home the sink and Connie started by cleaning.

After
The sink has regained his youth and has been installed on a custom-made furniture, whose feet are from an old dining room table. The wooden washstand, bought at Ikea, was covered with a layer of blue paint.

“I love this sink ,” says Connie.” I stupidly laugh every time I enter my beautiful bathroom and I see. It transmits a bit of local history in this room redone.”

Find taps for the old sink was not easy. The couple found them at Vintage Tub & Bath .”Obbie our plumber and worked really hard to find new equipment to suit the old sink,”says Connie.

Connie found the bathtub in a flea market of Atascadero, California. She returned home and was stored for seven years in a chicken coop. It took the renovation of the bathroom that Connie finally restores his bathtub.

“The interior was in good condition but the exterior was rusty. So I returned the tub and I sanded with steel wool. I then served me a primer to prevent rust ” , she says. ” I spread two coats of paint on the outer coating of the tub with a color which I have made myself the mixture and I sprayed black on the feet in lion claws. ”

The walk-in shower, without a door, features white tile Metro. The couple used a local plumber to connect the inflow of hot and cold water in the shower.

The medicine cabinet overlooking the toilet is a favorite of furniture Connie. “I bought it Ikea, but it was enough of a lick of paint and some accessories that people struggle to believe that this is a new piece of furniture. ”

Connie recovered the door of the bathroom in a garage sale.To save space, Obbie installed it in the manner of a door sliding barn.

The mirror above the sink comes from a favorite antique shops Connie in Lewiston, Idaho. ” He was golden, but it was not my style, so I painted ,” she says. “First black, then blue, then with the mixture that I used for the tub. Finally, I rubbed with sandpaper, and the four colors have emerged. ”

Obbie shot exterior walls and installed new windows. Accessories vintage green dotting the bathroom are from Rejuvenation .

“Do not be afraid to undertake yourself projects. It’s very rewarding to be able to do a job and get a good result, ” says Connie. ” But we must also know to call on professionals. A good electrician and a good plumber can save you a lot of time and you avoid a lot of headaches. ”

The couple had no predetermined budget, he just pay for materials as and when the work progresses. The room already had running water but for everything else, they are starting from scratch.

Connie believes they have managed to refurbish the bathroom for a total of less than EUR 2 600: “200 euros wood, 60 euros plaster – I’m not quite sure of the final cost ” , she calculates.” We realized this project gradually and we saved a lot of money by doing most of the work ourselves.”

Here with Walter and Charlie, her grandchildren son, Connie said: “It’s for the kids that did it!”
